The Courtyard Changchun Poly — inaugurated in 2022 at No. 7847 Xihu Avenue in Changchun’s Automobile Economic and Technological Development Zone — was conceived as a landmark that would define the hospitality standard for an entire industrial corridor. As the exclusive FF&E partner for this 286-room property, Zhobai Hotel Furniture was entrusted with one of the most comprehensive hotel furniture programmes we have undertaken in Northeast China: lobbies, guestrooms, dining venues, meeting facilities, and recreation spaces, all coordinated across a single integrated delivery.

The hotel’s location tells the story of its primary commercial purpose. Situated immediately adjacent to the FAW (First Automobile Works) NBD business district and within walking distance of the FAW-Volkswagen manufacturing campus, Courtyard Changchun Poly was built to serve the executives, engineers, and commercial delegations that circulate continuously through China’s automotive capital. Fifteen minutes by car to Changchun West Station, two kilometres from Automobile Park Metro Station, and directly opposite a Wanda Plaza — the property sits at the crossroads of Changchun’s industrial economy and its emerging urban leisure infrastructure. Zhobai’s FF&E specification was calibrated to serve both constituencies: the demanding business traveller who expects international Marriott standards, and the domestic leisure guest discovering that Changchun’s automotive heartland has quietly become one of the most liveable new urban districts in the northeast.

Lobby and Public Arrival Spaces

The arrival experience at Courtyard Changchun Poly sets an immediate tone of contemporary restraint. The exterior facade — a clean-lined commercial tower in warm stone cladding and glass curtain-wall — establishes the property’s corporate identity from the street, while the ground-floor lobby transitions guests into a warmer, more residential atmosphere designed to counteract the industrial character of the surrounding development zone.

The lobby entrance zone sets a tone of contemporary warmth; Zhobai supplied the custom millwork reception counter, entrance console tables, and all FF&E framing the arrival sequence.

The reception counter is a Zhobai bespoke fabrication: a curved desk in warm-toned veneer with brushed bronze hardware, designed to project efficiency and approachability simultaneously.

Zhobai’s lobby furniture programme centres on the reception counter — a curved millwork piece in warm walnut veneer with integrated brushed bronze hardware, sized to accommodate three simultaneous check-in positions without appearing monolithic in the double-height lobby volume. Behind the counter, a backlit feature wall carries the Courtyard by Marriott branding in polished metal lettering mounted against a textured stone-effect panel fabricated in Zhobai’s millwork facility in Guangdong and shipped north in completed sections for on-site assembly.

The central lobby lounge features Zhobai’s modular sofa and occasional table programme, arranged to define distinct conversation zones within the open-plan lobby volume.

Corner lounge zones throughout the lobby use Zhobai’s L-configuration sofa modules — flexible enough to accommodate solo guests with laptops as well as small group meetings.

The waiting lounge along the lobby perimeter features Zhobai’s long bench sofa — a configuration that maximises seating density during peak check-in periods without sacrificing visual openness.

Zhobai’s corridor programme includes wall-mounted console tables, artwork lighting brackets, and bespoke corridor benches — details that maintain the design language from lobby to lift lobby to guestroom floor.

The central lobby lounge is anchored by a bespoke circular rug — supplied through Zhobai’s soft-furnishings division — around which we arranged a modular sofa system in a warm sand-toned fabric with dark oak frame components. Occasional tables in three height variations allow guests to configure the zone for laptop working, casual conversation, or simply relaxing with the hotel’s complimentary coffee service. Corner lounge zones extend the public seating programme to the lobby perimeter, with L-configuration sofa modules that create semi-enclosed enclosures without physically partitioning the space.

Lobby Bar

The lobby bar counter is a Zhobai fabrication in polished dark granite and brass-trimmed millwork, positioned to serve both walk-in guests and overflow from the adjacent dining zones.

The casual dining corner adjacent to the lobby bar accommodates informal meals and working lunches; Zhobai specified counter-height stools and compact dining tables suited to solo and duo dining occasions.

The lobby bar at Courtyard Changchun Poly is positioned as an all-day social hub — morning coffee for early departures, afternoon refreshments for arriving guests, and evening drinks for the automotive industry professionals who make up a significant portion of the hotel’s repeat clientele. Zhobai fabricated the bar counter in polished dark granite with a brass-trimmed millwork back bar, the back bar shelving system designed with adjustable display lighting to accommodate both bottle display and the property’s growing glassware collection. Bar stools in a saddle-shaped dark leather were custom upholstered by Zhobai’s soft-furnishings team to the precise seat height required by the counter’s 1,100 mm working surface.

Guestrooms: 286 Keys Across Nine Room Categories

The 286-room inventory at Courtyard Changchun Poly spans a comprehensive range of room types — from efficient standard configurations at 35 square metres to the 74-square-metre suites preferred for corporate entertainment — as well as 90 long-stay apartment-format rooms and a dedicated family room with children’s features. Marriott’s Courtyard brand carries specific FF&E standards documentation, and Zhobai’s project team worked directly with Marriott’s Asia-Pacific procurement liaison to obtain brand approval for all custom pieces before fabrication commenced.

The guestroom entry corridor: Zhobai specified a mirrored wardrobe door system with recessed handles that maximises the perceived width of entry zones in the 35 m² standard room footprint.

The Standard King guestroom living zone combines Zhobai’s platform bed base, upholstered headboard, dual bedside tables, and integrated TV console into a cohesive furniture grouping.

The Basic King configuration uses Zhobai’s space-optimised bedside shelf integrated into the headboard panel, eliminating the need for separate nightstands in the room’s more compact floor plan.

Twin configurations share the same headboard-and-shelf system as king rooms, with the two single beds positioned to provide adequate circulation while maintaining a unified visual composition.

Select double-bed rooms feature an LED ambient lighting system behind the headboard panel — a Zhobai electrical integration that allows guests to select warm or cool accent lighting without external fixtures.

The Deluxe King Cityview bedroom features a full floor-to-ceiling curtain system supplied by Zhobai — motorised blackout panels paired with sheer voile in a warm champagne tone.

The Deluxe Twin Cityview room accommodates corporate travel pairs with generous desk space; Zhobai specified a full-width floating desk at both wall positions to equalise workspace between the two beds.

High-floor king bedrooms benefit from panoramic views of Changchun’s Automobile Development Zone; Zhobai positioned all furniture to maintain unobstructed sightlines from the bed to the floor-to-ceiling glazing.

The dedicated family room features Zhobai’s children’s furniture programme: a low-profile bunk unit with rounded corners, an indoor tent structure, and safety-rated soft furnishings — all specified to meet GB 28007 children’s furniture safety standards.

The family room — one of Courtyard Changchun Poly’s most distinctive room type offerings — required Zhobai to develop a bespoke children’s furniture programme alongside the standard adult FF&E. The room features a custom indoor tent structure fabricated in powder-coated steel with canvas panels, a low-profile bunk bed unit with ladder handrails rated to Chinese GB 28007 children’s furniture safety standards, and rounded-corner occasional tables finished in a playful warm yellow. Adult furniture in the same space maintains the property’s standard material language, ensuring the room functions for parents while delighting children — a balance that required unusually close collaboration between Zhobai’s design team and the hotel’s operational planning staff.

Long-stay apartment rooms feature a Zhobai-fabricated laundry cabinet that conceals the washer-dryer unit behind full-height joinery doors — a practical necessity for extended-stay guests that demanded precise millwork tolerances for ventilation clearance.

The 90 long-stay apartment-format rooms required a fundamentally different FF&E approach from the transient guest rooms. Zhobai developed a series of high-capacity storage pieces — a floor-to-ceiling wardrobe system with full-extension drawers, a laundry cabinet enclosing the washer-dryer unit behind full-height millwork doors, and a kitchen counter unit with concealed appliance storage — all specified in a durable high-pressure laminate finish rated for the daily wear of extended occupancy. The furniture system’s modular construction also allows the hotel’s housekeeping team to reconfigure individual pieces when a long-stay unit transitions to transient inventory, a flexibility requirement specified by Courtyard’s brand operations team.

Bathrooms: Marble Vanities and Wet-Dry Separation

Dining: Three Venues, Three Distinct Furniture Programmes

Wanhui Western All-Day Dining Restaurant

The second-floor Wanhui Restaurant is the hotel’s primary all-day dining venue — a full-service buffet and à la carte space that opens daily from 6:00 AM for breakfast service and returns for dinner with a sea-food buffet offering. With panoramic city-view windows and a broad open-plan floor plate, the space demanded a furniture programme that could accommodate high-turnover breakfast service in the morning and a more relaxed, convivial atmosphere in the evening.

The breakfast zone in the Wanhui Restaurant features Zhobai’s commercial dining chair in a sand-coloured upholstered pad — a spec designed for easy cleaning under high breakfast-service turnover while maintaining a refined appearance.

The Wanhui buffet restaurant features Zhobai’s upholstered banquette seating in a cobalt blue — the hotel’s brand accent colour — running the length of the window wall, with loose dining chairs at the table opposite.

The main dining hall features warm oak-toned dining tables in three sizes — 2-top, 4-top, and 6-top — allowing the floor team to reconfigure the layout for group bookings or social dining events.

The dining corridor connecting the restaurant zones uses Zhobai’s counter-height table-and-stool programme — an efficient use of transitional space that adds seating capacity without interrupting the flow between venue areas.

Yugong Chinese Restaurant

The Yugong Chinese Restaurant private dining booths feature Zhobai’s high-back banquette seating system — the upholstered back panels provide acoustic separation between adjacent booths in the open-plan dining room.

Yugong’s window dining rooms seat private groups of 8–12; Zhobai supplied the round dining table in a red lacquer finish — a traditional Chinese banquet colour choice that reinforces the restaurant’s northeastern Chinese culinary identity.

The third-floor Yugong Chinese Restaurant serves northeast Chinese and Shandong cuisine in a premium environment calibrated for corporate entertainment and family banquets. The 1,395-square-metre event floor encompasses five multi-function rooms, a pillar-free grand ballroom with 6.6–7 metre ceiling heights, and a full staging infrastructure — including a 52-square-metre integrated LED wall — capable of accommodating 60 tables for wedding banquets or large-scale automotive industry launch events.

The executive boardroom features a Zhobai bespoke long conference table in a book-matched walnut veneer with integrated power and data modules flush to the tabletop surface.

Smaller meeting rooms accommodate 6–10 delegates with Zhobai’s modular conference table system — individual table modules can be separated and reconfigured for training or workshop layouts.

The large conference hall configured in theater style accommodates up to 300 delegates; Zhobai supplied all padded stacking chairs and the foldable writing tablet arms used in theater and classroom configurations.

The executive boardroom is anchored by a bespoke conference table in book-matched walnut veneer — 5,400 mm long, 1,200 mm wide — with flush-mounted power and data modules at each seating position, specified in coordination with the hotel’s AV integrator so that cable management and technology infrastructure align precisely with Zhobai’s table carcase design. Smaller meeting rooms use a modular conference table system whose individual modules can be separated and reconfigured by hotel staff without tools, enabling classroom, boardroom, and hollow-square layouts from the same furniture inventory.

For the grand ballroom, Zhobai supplied 600 gold-tone banquet chairs — our standard hotel banquet model with a padded seat and sash-ready back — and 60 round dining tables in a dark walnut laminate surface. The chair’s stackability (12 chairs per stack) was a critical specification parameter: the ballroom’s rapid-reset requirements between wedding lunch and corporate dinner events depend on housekeeping being able to clear and redress 60 tables in under two hours, a timeline that drove every handling-efficiency decision in the banquet furniture specification.

Recreation Facilities

The 24-hour fitness centre on the sixth floor; Zhobai supplied the equipment storage units, towel service station, and all freestanding furniture in the gym environment.

The sixth floor recreation level houses the hotel’s full fitness centre, yoga room, and indoor heated swimming pool — all available to hotel guests at no additional charge. Zhobai’s scope on this level was focused on the fitness centre’s peripheral furniture: equipment organiser racks, a towel service station, a trainer’s desk unit, and the locker room benching system. The pool surround was furnished with Zhobai’s resin-weave sun loungers — a model selected for its resistance to the chlorine-laden humid environment that rapidly degrades standard upholstered furniture in indoor pool settings.

Project Delivery and Zhobai’s Integrated FF&E Approach

Delivering a 286-room Marriott-affiliated hotel opening in Northeast China’s winter climate presented logistical considerations that a supplier without deep Chinese market experience would struggle to manage. Zhobai’s Changchun Poly project was planned with delivery sequencing that anticipated the region’s late-autumn weather constraints: all exterior and ground-floor furniture was delivered and installed first, while guestroom furniture followed in a floor-by-floor sequence coordinated with the building contractor’s room completion schedule.

Brand approval — a mandatory step for any FF&E piece that deviates from Marriott’s Courtyard prototypical specification — was managed by Zhobai’s project team through a structured sample submission process: material samples, finish boards, and prototype pieces were submitted to Marriott’s Asia-Pacific architecture and design team at defined project milestones, with review timelines built into the overall project schedule rather than treated as potential delays. All brand-approved custom pieces carry documentation filed with both the hotel owner and Marriott’s records system, ensuring that future renovations can reference original specifications precisely.

Courtyard Changchun Poly opened in 2022 to become the first Courtyard by Marriott in Jilin Province and the first international chain hotel brand in the Automobile Economic and Technological Development Zone — a milestone that carries commercial significance for every stakeholder in the project. On the forested shores of Lake Xianhai in Mianyang, Sichuan — a lake ringed by 46 peninsulas and cloaked in 90% forest coverage — Sheraton Mianyang Xianhai Lake Resort opened in July 2021 as something rarely achieved in the global hotel industry: a world-class brand’s official prototype for a new design generation. Developed under the newly reimagined Sheraton brand by Marriott International, the 342-key property was designated as the Asia-Pacific’s first Sheraton “New Era” flagship — a benchmark property against which Sheraton hotels across the region would be measured and inspired. Its open-lobby concept, Sichuan bamboo-weave interiors, lakeside resort setting and comprehensive family amenity programme made it, upon opening, the most talked-about new hotel in southwest China. Zhobai was appointed to deliver the complete hotel furniture FF&E solution for this landmark project — producing and installing the full furniture programme across guestrooms, suites, lobby, dining halls, banquet facilities and wellness spaces.

Project Overview

The Sheraton Mianyang sits on the edge of Lake Xianhai in the Xianhai National Tourism Resort — a 46-km² protected scenic area 26 kilometres from Mianyang city centre, offering a natural setting entirely unlike the urban-tower hotels that dominate most Chinese Sheraton properties. At 342 rooms and suites across a low-rise lakeside complex, the hotel draws on the resort’s extraordinary landscape — lake views from over 70% of guestrooms, 2,000 m² of lakeside outdoor lawn and terrace event space, and a children’s resort programme anchored by an indoor-outdoor dual fantasy playground — to deliver a complete leisure and family holiday destination that happens also to carry one of the world’s most trusted business hotel brands. Zhobai’s FF&E scope covered every guest-facing space in the property, from the individually specified guestrooms to the &More shared-work lobby and the lakeside terrace dining furniture.

Design Vision: New Sheraton Meets Sichuan

The “New Era” Sheraton design language abandons the traditional hotel lobby — a formal reception hall separating arriving guests from the rest of the building — in favour of an open, activity-rich community space that Sheraton calls the “Social Hub.” At Mianyang Xianhai, this concept was translated through the lens of Sichuan’s extraordinary craft and natural heritage: bamboo-weave ceiling panels reference the hand-woven basketry traditions of Sichuan’s artisan communities; pale camphor wood case goods echo the light, warm timber of a Sichuan teahouse; and the lobby’s signature botanical installations bring the forest landscape of Lake Xianhai’s shore inside the building. Zhobai’s design team worked in close collaboration with Marriott’s regional FF&E standards team and the project’s interior architects to develop a complete furniture specification that honours both the global “New Era” brief and the specific cultural intelligence of a property rooted in Sichuan.

The Social Hub Lobby

The Sheraton “Social Hub” lobby at Mianyang Xianhai is designed around four distinct zones, each furnished by Zhobai as a coherent programme while maintaining visual continuity across the full open-plan space. The primary lounge zone — anchored by a deep modular sofa in a warm ivory performance linen with bamboo-print scatter cushions — faces the lobby’s full-height glazing and the lake view beyond, positioning the landscape as the room’s centrepiece rather than its backdrop. A dedicated co-working long-table zone, furnished with Zhobai’s custom communal desk in pale ash with integrated power and data channels and a series of individual task chairs in a natural mesh back, serves the hotel’s business guests without the formality of a traditional business centre. A quiet acoustic zone — three private telephone-booth structures in pale timber with an upholstered internal bench — provides for confidential calls without requiring a separate room. The lobby café bar area rounds out the Social Hub with a custom counter in hand-lacquered cabinetry and a series of high bar stools and low café tables in a coordinating pale ash.

Guestroom Furniture Programme

All 342 guestrooms are designed in what the hotel describes as “light wood Neo-Chinese light luxury” — a palette of pale camphor wood, warm ivory linens, and subtle Sichuan craft references that creates a calm, restful atmosphere calibrated to the forest-lake setting outside every window.

Mountain View & Lake View Rooms (41–43 m²)

The hotel’s standard room categories — Deluxe Mountain View and Premium Lake View — share the same generous 41–43 m² footprint and differ primarily in orientation and upholstery accent colour. Zhobai specified a Sheraton-standard Sweet Sleeper bed platform in pale camphor wood veneer with a padded headboard in a quiet off-white cotton-linen blend, floating bedside units with wireless charging and integrated reading lights, and a full wardrobe unit in matching pale timber laminate with push-to-open hardware. The height-adjustable work desk — a Sheraton “New Era” brand standard — is fabricated by Zhobai in a pale stone composite surface with an electric motor sit-stand mechanism, paired with an ergonomic task chair in a natural mesh back and padded arm rests. Lake-view rooms receive a deeper sage-green accent cushion set and curtain lining to complement the lake panorama; mountain-view rooms use a softer terracotta accent palette that references Sichuan’s ochre hillscapes.

Bathroom Design

Every guestroom bathroom at the Sheraton Mianyang features the wet-dry separated design — an independent deep-soak bathtub and a separate walk-in rainfall shower — that the Sheraton brand specifies as a standard across its full-service resort properties. Zhobai supplied a freestanding soaking bathtub surround in honed white marble composite with floor-mounted brushed champagne gold fittings, a wall-hung double-basin vanity console in pale grey stone composite with a coordinating LED mirror, and a bamboo-motif towel rail in a matte gold finish that connects the bathroom’s hardware to the Sichuan craft references running through the hotel’s interiors.

Lake View Suites & Executive Programme (86–240 m²)

The suite programme ranges from 86 m² Executive Lake View Suites with 270-degree lake panoramas to the 240 m² Premium Resort Suite with an oversized observation terrace and a freestanding bathtub positioned at the picture window for a direct lake view. Zhobai furnished all suite living zones with a bespoke sofa in a warm jade performance fabric with hand-embroidered cushion panels in a Sichuan floral motif, a round coffee table in hand-shaped travertine with a pale gold base, and a console table in pale camphor wood with a delicate bamboo-lattice carved door front. The suite programme’s observation terraces each received a two-seat teak conversation set with cushions in a botanical-print outdoor fabric — an outdoor living zone that extends the suite’s usable area to the lake’s edge.

Dining Furniture

The hotel’s four food-and-beverage venues each require a distinct furniture character that serves both the programming of the space and the wider resort narrative. The Daily Social all-day dining restaurant — the hotel’s largest F&B venue — was furnished by Zhobai with a programme designed for the full arc of a buffet day: round four-top tables in pale ash for the morning buffet service, a perimeter run of curved banquette booths in a warm camel performance leather for the evening seafood buffet, and a live-station bar counter in hand-lacquered pale grey cabinetry with a honed stone top. The Yue Chinese restaurant received a more ceremonial furniture treatment: round lacquered dining tables with lazy-susan insets in brushed gold hardware, high-back dining chairs in a deep jade brocade with hand-carved camphor wood frames, and six private dining room sets with full bespoke cabinetry in lacquered ebony with bamboo-lattice panel doors.

Banquet & Meeting Spaces

The hotel’s 1,200 m² of indoor meeting and event space — anchored by an 800 m² pillar-free grand ballroom capable of hosting 700 guests in round-table banquet format or 1,000 in theatre configuration — is complemented by 2,000 m² of outdoor lakeside lawn for the garden weddings, team-building events and al fresco banquets that the Xianhai setting makes uniquely spectacular. Zhobai furnished the grand ballroom with a complete Sheraton-specification banquet package: 72-inch round tables in dark walnut veneer, ballroom chairs in a champagne-gold fabric with a pale timber frame, and a portable staging system in lacquered pale ash. The five syndicate meeting rooms received Zhobai’s modular conference table system in pale ash veneer with integrated cable management, executive chairs in a navy blue mesh-back performance fabric, and perimeter credenzas in a matching timber finish. The boardroom configuration received a fixed oval conference table in solid camphor wood with integrated power and data, paired with high-back leather chairs in a warm tan cowhide.

Wellness & Family Facilities

The hotel’s wellness and family amenity programme is a primary driver of its commercial success as northern Sichuan’s leading family resort. The Zhobai One-Stop Process

Delivering the complete FF&E programme for the Asia-Pacific’s designated flagship Sheraton “New Era” prototype — subject to the most rigorous Marriott brand compliance review applied to any Sheraton opening in the region that year — required Zhobai to operate at the highest standard of its design, manufacturing and project management capability. The delivery model ran across four structured phases:
1. Design Collaboration & Brand Compliance (Months 1–4): Zhobai’s senior design team participated in brand compliance review sessions with Marriott’s global FF&E standards team, producing full FF&E schedules, material sample submissions and 3D room visualisations. As the Asia-Pacific prototype property, this hotel’s specifications were reviewed by Marriott’s global Sheraton brand leadership — not merely the regional team — before any item entered production. A complete physical mock-up guestroom was constructed in Zhobai’s Guangdong facility and signed off at this level before mass production commenced.
2. Custom Manufacturing (Months 5–10): All furniture was produced at Zhobai’s ISO 9001-certified workshops. The height-adjustable desk units were subject to 10,000-cycle motor endurance testing before shipment. Camphor wood carved panels underwent moisture-content testing to ensure stability in Sichuan’s humid climate. All upholstered pieces received fire-retardancy certification per GB 17927 and a 50,000-cycle Martindale abrasion test to Marriott’s contract fabric standard.
3. Logistics & Resort Delivery (Month 11): All container loads were coordinated to the Xianhai resort site via the Mianyang city road network, with deliveries scheduled to avoid the resort’s peak weekend visitor traffic. On-site staging areas were established in coordination with the hotel’s main contractor to manage the delivery flow of 342 rooms’ worth of furniture through a resort compound under simultaneous finishing trades.
4. On-Site Installation & Snagging (Month 12): A Zhobai installation team of 25 technicians completed the full fit-out over seven weeks. As the Asia-Pacific prototype, the final pre-opening snagging walkthrough involved Marriott’s global Sheraton brand team in addition to the hotel’s general management — a sign-off process that Zhobai’s installation quality passed without condition.

The Ritz-Carlton, Almaty, opened in 2014 within the landmark Esentai Tower, commands a 30th-floor arrival experience against the breathtaking backdrop of the Tian Shan mountains. The Ritz-Carlton, Astana, opened in 2017 in the heart of the Kazakhstani capital’s CBD, steps from the iconic Baiterek Tower and the country’s seat of government, anchors the diplomatic and corporate hospitality market of a rapidly growing modern capital. Zhobai was proud to deliver the complete hotel furniture FF&E solution for both Kazakhstan properties — a dual-city programme that placed Ritz-Carlton’s exacting luxury standards at the centre of every design, manufacturing and logistics decision.

A Dual-Property Brief

Delivering furniture for two Ritz-Carlton properties simultaneously — in a landlocked Central Asian country 4,500 kilometres from Zhobai’s Guangdong manufacturing base — required a project management approach of uncommon rigour. The Almaty property, at 145 keys, operates from floors 9 to 30 of the Esentai Tower, with its defining great room and lobby lounge on the 30th floor overlooking the Tian Shan range. The Astana property, at 157 keys, occupies a purpose-built structure in the Kazakhstani capital’s showcase CBD, its contemporary architecture expressing the ambition of a young nation that built its entire capital from scratch on the steppe. Together, the two properties represent 302 keys, ten meeting rooms, two grand ballrooms, and a combined food-and-beverage programme spanning five venues — all requiring furniture of identical brand quality expressed through the distinct personality of each city.

Design Vision: Ritz-Carlton in the Heart of Central Asia

Ritz-Carlton’s brand design canon is built on classical European luxury — the weight of fine stone, the warmth of hand-polished timber, the precision of bespoke metalwork — reinterpreted for each property through the lens of local culture. In Almaty, this meant drawing on the Kazakh steppe nomadic tradition: felt-work geometric patterns translated into custom carpet and upholstery weaves, the warm golds and deep reds of traditional Kazakh ceremonial textiles rendered in performance fabrics, and the raw drama of the Tian Shan themselves present in the veined stone surfaces of lobby counters and suite feature walls. In Astana, the reference shifted to the geometric rationalism of the new capital’s monumental architecture and the confident modernity of a post-Soviet nation building its identity: clean-lined case goods in pale warm timber, platinum-toned hardware, and a quieter palette of ivory, stone and brushed gold that foregrounds the city’s extraordinary skyline as the primary decoration.

Guestroom Furniture: Almaty

The Ritz-Carlton, Almaty’s 145 guestrooms begin at 40 square metres — spacious by any standard, extraordinary when every room looks out over one of the world’s great mountain ranges through floor-to-ceiling glazing. Zhobai specified the full guestroom furniture package across all categories: a king bed platform in solid walnut with a channel-tufted headboard in a heavyweight silk-cotton blend, floating bedside units with hand-stitched leather fronts and integrated charging surfaces, and a full-width credenza in book-matched walnut veneer with a custom inlaid geometric brass band along its fascia — the signature Kazakh craft reference that recurs throughout the property. The writing desk — positioned at the floor-to-ceiling window to face the Tian Shan — is a thick solid-surface slab in warm ivory stone composite on a hand-forged blackened steel trestle frame, paired with a high-back executive chair in full-grain cognac leather.

Guestroom Furniture: Astana

The Ritz-Carlton, Astana’s 157 guestrooms share the same spatial generosity as their Almaty counterparts but express a markedly different aesthetic personality. Where Almaty draws warmth from tradition, Astana projects the cool confidence of a contemporary capital. Zhobai’s furniture specification for Astana used a paler timber palette — bleached oak case goods with platinum-toned hardware — and a more architectural headboard treatment: a full-width upholstered panel in a tone-on-tone geometric weave that references the hexagonal patterning of the Baiterek Tower seen from every high-floor room. The writing desk in Astana is a more linear, minimalist form in pale stone composite with a recessed edge detail and an integrated cable management channel — the functional demands of a business-focused property expressed with the precision of a luxury watchmaker.

Suite Programme

Across both properties, the suite programme represents the highest expression of the FF&E brief. Suites range from 75 m² one-bedroom configurations to the 200 m² Presidential Suite in Almaty and the 210 m² equivalent in Astana. Zhobai furnished every suite living zone with a bespoke three-seat sofa in a hand-blocked textile of the property’s signature pattern, a custom cocktail table in hand-shaped natural stone with a hand-hammered brass tray insert, and a console table in solid walnut with a gallery rail of blackened steel for display objects. Suite dining areas received round marble tables with custom chairs in a stripe-weave performance velvet — a sitting that functions equally for an in-suite business meeting and a private dinner for two. In the Presidential Suites, every piece of case furniture was produced as a true one-off: hand-carved timber frames, lacquered cabinetry with inlaid metalwork panels, and a custom four-poster bed frame in solid walnut with a hand-stitched leather canopy trim.

Dining Furniture

Both properties operate multi-venue food-and-beverage programmes serving resident guests, the city’s business elite and diplomatic communities. The Seven Restaurant in Almaty — a full-service all-day dining venue on the 30th floor with panoramic mountain views — was furnished by Zhobai with a programme designed to shift between a relaxed international buffet setting and an intimate evening dining experience: round and four-top tables in dark walnut veneer with leather-wrapped edge banding, upholstered dining chairs in a warm tobacco grain leather, and a series of curved banquette booths along the mountain-facing perimeter for guests who want the view without the open-plan exposure. The 30th-floor Lobby Lounge — where Almaty’s power-broker lunch and afternoon tea circuits play out daily — received a deliberately different furniture character: lower seating, broader coffee tables, and a mix of individual armchairs and two-seat love seats in deep burgundy and gold silk velvet that creates the layered, intimate atmosphere of a private club.

Meeting & Event Spaces

As the premier event address in their respective cities, both Ritz-Carlton properties host an extraordinary range of occasions — state-level diplomatic receptions, international corporate conferences, society weddings and private gallery events — that demand furniture of commensurate quality and flexibility. The Almaty ballroom, at 550 m², and the Astana ballroom, at 600 m², are both pillar-free and divisible, requiring Zhobai to supply furniture that performs with equal elegance in a 30-person boardroom configuration and a 350-person gala dinner. Zhobai’s ballroom package for both properties: 72-inch round banquet tables in book-matched dark walnut veneer with self-levelling adjustable feet; ballroom chairs in ivory silk with a gold-lacquered frame, stackable to six units with a dedicated trolley; and a portable stage, lectern and head-table set in solid walnut with a Ritz-Carlton-brand compliant finish specification. Boardroom and syndicate meeting rooms received a fixed-programme conference table in hand-selected book-matched walnut veneer with integrated data and power management, executive leather chairs in full-grain cognac with lumbar adjustment, and a credenza with lockable storage and a concealed AV-equipment bay.

Wellness Furniture

Both properties operate full-service spa and fitness programmes that serve as meaningful amenities for their resident and local member bases. Zhobai furnished the fitness centres at both properties with a custom equipment-surround console — a continuous dark timber and stainless steel unit providing personal accessory storage, towel service, and frameless mirror panels — that transforms the functional environment of a gym into a space that reads as an extension of the hotel’s luxury aesthetic. Spa treatment rooms at each property received individual custom furniture sets: massage tables in medical-grade upholstery, attendant stools in solid oak, and a full-length storage and towel-rail unit in lacquered cabinetry with brass rail hardware that conceals all operational equipment behind a face of considered luxury.

The Zhobai One-Stop Process

Supplying a dual Ritz-Carlton property programme across two cities in Kazakhstan — with the associated brand compliance requirements of one of the world’s most demanding luxury hotel groups, and the logistics complexity of shipping from Guangdong to a landlocked Central Asian destination — was the most internationally complex FF&E programme Zhobai had undertaken to that point. All furniture underwent the full Ritz-Carlton contract specification test battery: ASTM D4060 surface abrasion, EN 1021 fire performance, dimensional inspection, and a bespoke humidity-exposure test to address the distinct climate conditions of Almaty’s high-altitude mountain microclimate versus the extreme continental conditions of Astana.
3. International Logistics (Months 11–12): Zhobai coordinated a multi-modal freight programme — container shipping from Guangdong to the Kazakhstani border crossing at Dostyk, onward by rail to the Almaty and Astana distribution points, and final trucked delivery to each property. The logistics timeline was built backward from each hotel’s operational handover date, with a two-week buffer at each transit stage to account for customs clearance variability at the China–Kazakhstan border.
4. Parallel On-Site Installation (Months 13–14): Zhobai deployed two simultaneous installation teams — one in each city — completing both properties within a shared six-week installation window. Final snagging walkthroughs at each property were conducted with the respective hotel’s general manager and Marriott’s regional pre-opening director.
